What Should Be Included in the Portfolio?
Your child’s portfolio should provide evidence of learning throughout the current school year.
Please upload your portfolio as a single PDF document whenever possible.
Your portfolio should include:
• 3 Reading samples (beginning, middle, and end of the school year)
• 3 Writing samples (beginning, middle, and end of the school year)
• 3 Math samples (beginning, middle, and end of the school year)
• A reading log or list of books read during the school year
• 3–5 additional pieces of portfolio evidence, such as:
Educational activity log, planner, or calendar
Science samples
Social Studies/History samples
Projects, creative work, or hands-on learning experiences
Photos of educational activities, field trips, experiments, or projects
Certificates, awards, or other evidence of learning
Please ensure all reading, writing, and math samples are dated or clearly labeled as beginning, middle, or end of the year so the evaluator can observe your student's growth over time.
Please do not worry about making your portfolio perfect. We are looking for evidence of educational progress over time, not a specific curriculum or portfolio format.
Student Reflection
As part of the evaluation process, students will complete a brief reflection that includes:
• Three short written questions
• A brief audio or video recording
The reflection is designed to be simple, relaxed, and age-appropriate. It gives students an opportunity to share their learning experiences in their own words and allows the evaluator to hear directly from the student about their growth throughout the year.
Parents are welcome to assist with reading questions and technology, but responses should reflect the student's own thoughts and experiences.
Audio/Video Recording Instructions
Students will submit a short audio or video recording (approximately 60–90 seconds) as part of their evaluation.
For students who read independently:
Record a reading sample from an age-appropriate book that reflects the student's current reading level.
For students who are not yet reading independently:
Record a brief show-and-tell about a favorite book, project, hobby, activity, or something the student learned during the school year.
This recording does not need to be formal or rehearsed. We simply want an authentic opportunity to hear the student communicate and share their learning in a comfortable, natural setting.
Recordings may be submitted as:
• Audio files (.mp3, .m4a, .wav)
• Video files (.mp4, .mov)
Families may upload the recording directly through the evaluation form. If the file is too large to upload, you may provide a shareable Google Drive link instead.
When sharing a Google Drive file, please ensure the sharing settings allow anyone with the link to view the recording.
There is no need for professional recording equipment. A simple recording from a phone, tablet, or computer is perfectly acceptable.

That's okay! We understand that every homeschool looks different. We simply need enough documentation to demonstrate educational progress throughout the year.
